Jan. 6--The price of sugar could rise by between two and five baht a kilogramme if the cabinet agrees to a proposal to help local cane growers and refiners.
Refined sugar is now priced at 14.25 baht a kilo, including a 75 satang surcharge imposed recently, the first increase for several years.
The Cane and Sugar Board Office had suggested the price rise as one of two options, said Ruengsak Ngamsompak, the board's secretary-general.
