Jan. 4--The government is backing a plan to develop the Sogo department store in central Bangkok as the Thailand Fashion Centre with an initial investment fund worth 500 million baht.
The decision followed a meeting yesterday between Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and representatives of four industry groups: garments and textiles, moulds, jewellery and leather goods.
Deputy Prime Minister Prommin Lertsuridej said the government might support the initial budget through special loans for developing the venue. However, the private sector must prepare detailed financial and management plans.
