Jan. 3--Hong Kong's move to scrap rice import quotas starting this week will have little impact on Thai rice exports, according to Sombun Pataichan, manager of the Rice Exporters' Association.

"Demand for Thai rice from Hong Kong will grow even higher after the market is freed up as there will be more importers," he said.

He said the free market would give a chance to independent importers who were not members of the Hong Kong Rice Importers and Exporters Association.
