Jan. 3--A rise in prices in both the food and non-food sectors drove the country's inflation rate in December, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to 1.6 percent, compared with the same month in 2001.
The monthly inflation rate increased by 0.1 percent from the previous month, with the average inflation for the full year in 2002 standing at 0.7 percent, much lower than the 1.6 percent recorded for 2001, according to Karun Kittisataporn, the permanent secretary of Commerce.
