Feb. 11--Three leading private organisations have urged Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha to accelerate the restructuring of import tariffs.
Kiatphong Noichaiboon, secretary-general of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), said the government planned for years to reform tariffs but key problems remained. Import tariffs on finished goods were still higher than those for raw materials.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC), the FTI and the Thai Bankers' Association wanted corrective action, he said.
Ajva Taulananda, TCC chairman, said the government should consider tax reforms against the global picture.
