Feb. 11--The imposition of the new excise tax on spa services will cut into tourism growth and jeopardise the government's campaign to promote Thailand as the Wellness Capital of Asia, according to the Thai Spa Association.
President Napalai Areesorn said that she would be asking the government to clarify whether spas are subject to the new 10 percent excise tax, since the law is unclear whether spas were included.
The 10 percent excise tax applies to massage parlours with hostesses.
Massage services in temples, schools, hospitals and fitness centres will not be taxed.
