Feb. 6--The Excise Department insists that mobile phone operators must start paying excise tax of 10 percent of their service revenues on Feb 15 although the Opposition is challenging the legitimacy of the imposition.
Sathit Limpongpan, director-general of the department, yesterday met executives of Advanced Info Service, DTAC and TA Orange to discuss the new tax.
The payment date was announced at the meeting although the Opposition on Tuesday petitioned the House Speaker to seek a Constitutional Court ruling on the executive decree imposing the tax.
