Feb. 5--Robinson department store supremo Kanok Wongtrangan plans to step down to be replaced by Preecha Ekkunagul, a representative of the Central Group, in a management change taking effect on March 1.

Sources said the change was not due to any business or personal conflicts between Dr Kanok and Central Retail Group, the major shareholder of Robinson. Dr Kanok, 50, is the first cousin of Suthichart Chirathivat, executive committee chairman at CRC (Central Retail Corp), and therefore is unlikely to do anything that may seriously hurt family members.
