Feb. 5--As they prepare for briefings at the Excise Department, mobile phone operators remain confused about how new excise taxes on telecom services will be collected, and whether the policy will create a level playing field in the industry as intended.

Executives of Advanced Info Service, DTAC and TA Orange will discuss the issue with department officials today, with fixed-line operators scheduled for briefings later.

The Finance Ministry last week announced a 2 percent excise tax on fixed-line service and 10 percent on mobile phone service with immediate effect.
