Jun. 3--The local franchisee of the Japanese video-rental chain Tsutaya has taken over rival Raku Raku's operations, further boosting Tsutaya's dominance in the market.
The sale, initially involving 10 outlets wholly owned by Raku Raku Entertainment, marks the exit from the video-rental business that was created in 2000 by Motoyasu Sugai, former chief of Tsutaya (Thailand) Co, the local franchisee of Tsutaya.
The 10 Raku Raku outlets will be rebranded and managed by Tsutaya. The value of the deal was not disclosed.
Tsutaya is negotiating to acquire the remaining 12 Raku Raku outlets run by franchisees.
