Jun. 3--The flow of local shoppers has been diverted from department stores, wet markets and grocery stores to hypermarkets and supermarkets, according to a study by the research firm AC Nielsen and the local advertising agency Creative Juice/G1.
The trend started last year and may intensify over the next two or three years due to the changing lifestyles of consumers, and the convenience and price advantages offered by discount stores.
According to the study, the frequency of visits by shoppers who patronise department stores, grocery stores and wet markets fell to 13 times a month, from 16 last year, with a decline to 10 foreseen in the near future.
