Jun. 3--Tax collections have outpaced by more than double the growth rate of the economy, a first for Thailand, according to Suparut Kawatkul, director-general of the Revenue Department.
Revenues for the first seven months of fiscal 2003 from October to April came in at 295.6 billion baht, or 12.8 percent higher year-on-year and more than double the estimated 5 percent growth of the economy.
Mr Suparut said that historically, tax receipts generally mirrored or slightly exceeded economic growth.
