Aug. 1--More promotion of Thailand as a venue for world-class golf tournaments will be done to help the overall tourism industry, says Sonthaya Khunpluem, the Tourism and Sports Minister.
Officials expect the country's profile in the golf world to rise when the Johnnie Walker Classic is staged in Thailand early next year, the fifth time the event has been held in the country.
Mr Sonthaya said golfers were high-end, niche-market tourists who spent an average of more than 7,000 baht per day, compared with 3,700-4,000 baht by regular tourists.
