Laguna Seca is dusty, with abrasive tarmac that's usually hot and tough on tires. Its straights are short and a race driver has the steering wheel turned most of the way around, yet speeds are high. Laguna delivers a lot of aerodynamic downforce but not much mechanical grip. Race setups are a compromise, because what works best for the hairpin won't work going up the hill on the backside.
