Mar. 7--Japan's Bridgestone Corp has announced a plan to invest 1.7 billion baht to set up a plant in Thailand to manufacture carbon black used in the production of tyres.
The largest Japanese tyre maker said it decided to establish the new plant to supply raw materials in order to respond to increased demand for tyres worldwide.
The new plant, to be built in Rayong, will start production in the latter half of next year, with annual production capacity of 40,000 tons.
Its subsidiary, Bridgestone Carbon Black Thailand Co, which was set up in November 2001, will operate the plant.
