Apr. 1--As new retail space at shopping centres is getting scarce, CRC Ahold Co is moving to establish new Tops supermarkets in communities under a stand-alone neighbourhood store concept.

The company, a joint venture between Central Retail Corp and Dutch supermarket chain Royal Ahold, is focusing on the concept to expand its network and the number of such supermarkets will soon outpace that of Tops branches at shopping centres.
