Mar. 14--The government is ready to continue subsidising local oil prices as long as necessary, regardless of how long a possible war in Iraq lasts, according to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
The government had the means to seek additional funds for the subsidy programme although the subsidy exceeded the initial projection of six billion to eight billion baht, he said.
Liquidity in the local financial system remained as high as 500 billion baht, providing the government with numerous opportunities to borrow.
