Mar. 12--Sugarcane growers are ready to co-operate with the government to change a pricing system that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra wants scrapped.
But any new system must prove to be better than the existing one, said Bancha Nakasakseree of the Sugarcane Planters Federation of Thailand.
He said cane growers were not panicking over Mr Thaksin's comments. The premier said on Monday that the current system, used since 1984 to split returns between sugarcane farmers and millers on 70:30 basis, had failed farmers.
