Apr. 11--The war in Iraq was a factor in the 10 percent year-on-year drop in container cargo traffic at Bangkok Port in March, though gross volume rose, according to Mana Patram, director-general of the Port Authority of Thailand.
Total volume of inbound general cargo at the port in March increased slightly from 149,257 to 158,348 tonnes. Outbound general cargo almost doubled to 11,207 tonnes from 5,950 tonnes in March last year, according to preliminary figures.
Mr Mana said the PAT still retained its growth target of 5 percent for cargo volume and revenue at the Bangkok and Laem Chabang ports this year.
