Apr. 7--The Finance Ministry expects the Sars epidemic to cut the country's economic growth this year by 0.3 percentage points, possibly 0.5 points in a worst-case scenario.
The ministry had earlier estimated overall economic growth this year at 5.1 percent, down slightly from last year's 5.2 percent growth. The earlier projection was based on the assumption of a relatively brief Iraq war, and was prepared before the Sars crisis.
Senior officials of the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Thailand tomorrow will discuss the economic impact of the epidemic.
