Apr. 2--The European Union wants to have closer economic cooperation with Southeast Asian countries by introducing what Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy refers to as a free trade flow.
Free trade between the two regions should become a reality after the current round of global trade talks known as the Doha Development Agenda was concluded, he said yesterday in Bangkok.
A free trade agreement between the two regions would result in a huge market of 750 million. After 10 more countries join the EU next year, it will become the world's largest trade bloc, with 450 million people in 25 countries.
