Apr. 2--The cabinet yesterday endorsed the new board of the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) to oversee its privatisation.

The new board is chaired by Khunying Dhipavadee Meksawan, who is also the chairwoman of TOT Corporation's board.

An industry source said the appointment of Khunying Dhipavadee to head the CAT was meant to pave the way for a smooth merger of TOT Corp and the CAT after the latter is split into CAT Telecom and Thailand Post.

CAT Telecom is to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand but the money-losing postal service is not.
