Apr. 2--Thai banks needed to move beyond acting as brokers by receiving deposits and making loans, and develop full customer partnerships to serve the public, according to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
"Banks need to support both the rich and poor, the large and small," he said at a reception yesterday celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Government Savings Bank.
The economic crisis had helped teach local bankers the importance of "knowing your customer", Mr. Thaksin said.
