May 3--Local egg traders want the government to allocate some of the 10 million baht it plans to donate to Iraq to buy eggs in order to shore up local prices.
Instead of cash only, some of the assistance to Iraq could take the form of eggs, said Wichai Taechawattananan, an executive with the Association of Hen-Egg Farmers, Traders and Exporters.
"Eggs are also a necessary food for Iraqi people," he said.
The association has proposed that the government buy about three million eggs from local producers for a total of four million baht to help improve prices.
