May 1--The Senate Committee on Agriculture has urged the government to review its import quota on skimmed milk, arguing the approved volume is too high and beyond the country's commitment to the World Trade Organisation, hence undermining local dairy farmers.
Chairman Ananta Dalodom said manufacturers preferred skimmed milk for ready-to-drink milk production to raw milk, given its cheaper production cost, resulting in an oversupply of raw milk.
