Jun. 11--The Islamic Bank of Thailand will serve as an investment and trading link between Thailand and other Islamic nations, bank chairman Aree Wong-araya has said.
The new bank held its first shareholders meeting yesterday. To date, the bank has raised capital of 696.86 billion baht, compared with registered capital of one billion baht.
The bank, formally established last year, limits private shareholders to holding no more than 15 percent of total new capital, with the Finance Ministry holding up to 49 percent. An initial public offering is also planned.
