Jun. 9--The State Enterprise Policy Office plans to launch a new accounting system for state enterprises next year, aimed at improving transparency and clearly defining the level of efficiency in operations.
Puntip Surathin, director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office, said the new accounting system would identify the extent of state subsidies offered for public services by different agencies.
State enterprises such as the State Railways of Thailand, the Bangkok Mass Transit System, the electricity and water utilities all maintain service prices below actual costs due to government policy.
