Jun. 7--Compliance with the tax code by nightclubs, discotheques and massage parlours remains sporadic, with a number of operators found in violation of the spirit of a new excise tax rule.
Since February, entertainment venues such as clubs and discotheques have been required to pay a 10 percent tax on revenues. Massage parlours with private rooms are also liable for the tax.
But Sathit Limpongpan, director-general of the Excise Department, said some venues had been found to have taken steps to violate the spirit of the new law to evade the tax.
