Jun. 5--Value-added taxes will be maintained at 7 percent for at least one more year, Finance Minister Suchart Jaovisidha said yesterday.
He said that while the ministry was confident that economic growth would reach at least 5.1 percent this year, the impact of the Sars outbreak had severely hurt the tourism sector while global economic uncertainties remained.
"We will not let taxes be an obstacle to trade and investment," he said.
Value-added taxes had been scheduled to increase to 10 percent in October with the start of the new fiscal year.
