Jun. 2--More than 5,000 people attended the Savings and Investment Fair during the weekend, a two-day event filled with briefings, seminars and training courses for neophyte investors about managing their personal finances.

The fair, sponsored by the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Chiang Mai Chamber of Commerce and other local business groups, had originally expected attendance of around 3,000.

But most exhibitors reported strong interest throughout, particularly at booths set up by local banks and asset-management companies offering billions of baht in properties at huge discounts.
