Jul. 7--The tourism industry on Ko Samui is recovering with a rising number to travellers expected to visit the resort island this month as concerns over Sars subside, and to attend the highly publicised Samui Carnival.
The Samui Carnival, to be held on July 18-20, is the first of its kind in Asia and is expected to attract both Thai and foreign visitors.
According to Michael Holehouse, chairman of the Ko Samui Chapter of the Thai Hotel Association, the combination of the Samui Carnival and the end of the Sars scare should considerably raise the occupancy rates of the island's 5,000 hotel rooms.
