Jul. 2--The country's inflation measured by consumer price index (CPI) rose 1.7 percent year-on-year in June, but the monthly figure stood at -0.4 percent against May mainly due to a reduction of oil prices and condominium rental costs.
Although the CPI in June was down 0.4 percent from May, deflation was still far off, given strong consumption, said Dhumnoon Cheosakul, deputy permanent secretary of the Commerce Ministry.
The country's inflation rate was 1.9 percent in the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2002.
