Aug. 6--The Finance Ministry has approved a request of the Bank of Thailand to close down Thanapat Credit Foncier, according to central bank governor M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula.

The central bank had taken control of the company last December due to an insufficient capital base as required by law as well as an inability to raise capital. The company's attempts to sell shares had failed to draw interest from prospective investors.

"After the credit foncier was placed under the central bank's control, there were no potential investors [who] wished to bail out the company," he said.
