Sep. 4--The Finance Ministry is preparing to issue onshore baht-denominated bonds, with non-residents to be allowed to invest directly without passing through dealers, according to Sommai Phasee, the deputy permanent secretary of the Finance Ministry.

He said onshore baht bonds were part of a broader framework to develop regional bond markets as planned under the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation group.

"Issuing baht-denominated bonds will help boost the profile of the currency among international investors. We hope eventually to see the baht become a main regional currency in the future," Mr Sommai said.
