Oct. 2--A new derivative market in Thailand is expected to trade futures contracts based on bond interest rates, according to Alison Harwood, head of the securities markets advisory group for the International Finance Corporation.
The IFC, the private investment arm of the World Bank, is working with the Securities and Exchange Commission on establishing a regulatory framework and infrastructure for a derivatives market, following the formal passage of the Derivatives Act in June. The market is expected to open next year, with initial startup money of 300 million baht.
