KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Health departments throughout the country are being warned that flu vaccine may be in short supply this fall _ a warning that comes as some officials worry that a major outbreak is due.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta say a shortage of vaccine is possible because it has proved unusually difficult to produce and because production by two of the four suppliers was delayed after the Food and Drug Administration ordered plant renovations to meet federal standards.
Health departments are expected to know by September whether there will be a shortage.
