CHICAGO _ With two out in the 12th inning Sunday, Shane Halter stood at the plate and saw Cubs third baseman Willie Greene playing back. Halter looked at manager Phil Garner in the first-base dugout. Garner knew what Halter wanted to do it, and he made no attempt to deter him.
So Halter _ who bunts a bucket of balls four times a week during the off-season, who knows bunting is something that keeps him in the big leagues _ dropped an ideal bunt on 1-1 pitch up the third-base line. Bobby Higginson scored from third without a play, and after Todd Jones threw a perfect 12th, the Tigers had a 3-2 victory at Wrigley Field.
