Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is not only the lone driver to win two Winston Cup races this season, but he will start Sunday night's Coca-Cola 600 from the pole position after breaking the track qualifying record with a lap of 186.034 mph under the lights on Wednesday.
"This is pretty exciting," said Earnhardt, a Winston Cup rookie who won The Winston, an all-star shootout here at Lowe's Motor Speedway, last weekend. "We had a good car all day long in practice. I knew if I didn't mess it up too bad, we'd have a shot at it."
