Is "Monday Night Football" really making a pass at Rush Limbaugh or is it just a publicity stunt for ABC's ailing 30-year-old franchise?
ABC's mute on this one, but Limbaugh _ a staunch conservative and the country's most listened-to radio talk host _ says he's in the running to replace fired Boomer Esiason as "MNF" color commentator.
Sis-boom-ba, Ditto-heads!
Limbaugh had no comment Tuesday, but on Monday he told a Washington radio show that he auditioned with "MNF" play-by-play announcer Al Michaels recently in L.A.
ABC Sports spokesman Mark Mandel wouldn't say if the audition took place. A new commentator _ probably two _ will be announced early next month. Michaels will return for his 15th consecutive season.
Whether it's the 49-year-old Limbaugh or somebody else, "MNF" needs points on the board. Quickly.
