Sep. 21--Transportation officials voted Wednesday evening to delay a proposed commuter rail line linking the Union City BART station to San Jose, all but killing the heavily criticized plan for a Caltrain-style service.
Acceding to Fremont neighborhood opposition and a changing commuter landscape, the Valley Transportation Authority's policy advisory board now recommends interim use of express buses instead. The commuter rail plan would have served as an interim solution for traffic congestion before a BART extension from the East Bay is completed.
