PHILADELPHIA _ In October, Oklahoma reintroduced itself as a national power with consecutive thrashings of Texas, Kansas State and Nebraska, by a combined margin of 135-59. The Sooners emerged from that three-game Murderers' Row not only unscathed, but ranked No.1 in the nation and with quarterback Josh Heupel as the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy.
In November, Oklahoma and Heupel have been far less dominant. In their last three games, the Sooners were extended into the fourth quarter by Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.
