May 25--Good nurses are getting harder to find, according to a survey conducted by the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance.
Low pay, a shrinking work force and competition from other care industries are all anchors on the profession.
And in an area where the elderly population is growing -- and requiring more care -- "the shortage of health care workers is particularly acute," the study said.
"All hospitals in upstate New York are confronting a shortage of qualified professionals," said Gary Fitzgerald, the group's president.
The Clifton Park-based organization lobbies on behalf of 58 upstate New York hospitals. …
