May 24--Real Networks Chief Executive Rob Glaser is planning to stand on a San Jose stage today, flanked by film director Francis Ford Coppola, to introduce what's described as the company's latest breakthrough in streaming video.

But the real action is shaping up in the Seattle area, as this latest move steps up an ever-escalating battle between Seattle's RealNetworks and its rival across the lake, Microsoft.

At the Real Conference 2000, Glaser plans to unveil RealServer8, an Internet media server designed to deliver VHS-quality streaming video to Internet users with a broadband connection, and near-DVD-quality video to those with a connection speed of 1 …
