Jun. 6--When it came to the holidays, Mary Alvarez didn't have to think hard about what to get for her nephew.
But with the expected closing of the original Great Train Store Company in Union Station, she may have to look elsewhere for gifts for the 5-year-old train buff.
"I just don't understand why they're closing something that's been here forever," she said on a recent visit. "It's Union Station, and it's a train store."
Alvarez's words probably sum up the thoughts of many of the city's train lovers and of a store that has become a mainstay at the former train station in downtown St. Louis.
