Jun. 22--Washington state third- and sixth-graders scored above the national average on the standardized Iowa tests, according to statistics released by state school officials.
This year's third-graders also achieved slightly higher scores than the previous year's third-graders. The test was given for the first time this year to sixth-graders.
Third-graders in the Tacoma School District, the state's second-largest district, made even larger gains.
