Jun. 17--A lightning strike at Richmond International Airport on Thursday night knocked out power to parts of the airport terminal and some runways.

The partial blackout delayed flights and left some travelers stranded overnight in Richmond.

Lightning hit power equipment off Airport Drive about 10:15 p.m. Thursday, taking out lights on two of three runways, said airport Toni Vanderspiegel.

It also damaged equipment at the airport toll plaza and related computers.

Much of the airport terminal was thrown into partial darkness as backup generators kicked on.
