Jun. 16--Buffalo is back on top as Upstate New York's biggest job market.
After losing that crown to Rochester in April, the Buffalo job market came roaring back in May, with a seasonal hiring surge at local construction and service firms pushing the region's unemployment rate to 4.4 percent, its lowest May level in at least 26 years, the state Labor Department said Thursday.
At the same time, the hiring surge drove the total number of jobs in Erie and Niagara counties to its highest level ever, with employment in the private sector, which excludes government jobs, hitting a record high for May.
