Girl Scouts Organization Moves Atlanta Headquarters Away from Downtown.

Jun. 13--The Girl Scouts have packed up their cookies and left downtown.

The Girl Scout Council of Northwest Georgia moved its headquarters and Volunteer Service Center last week from the United Way building on Edgewood Avenue to northern DeKalb County. The group moved because it outgrew its space.

By moving north along I-85, the group will be closer to 90 percent of its constituents, Chief Executive Harriet Hessam said.

"We needed a lot more space," she said. "Downtown is not the center of our jurisdiction by any means." Still, the Girl Scouts will retain a small office in the United Way building.
