Oklahoma Retailers Prepare to Weather Texas' Tax-Free Weekend.

Jul. 20--The state Retail Merchants Association is already cringing as the first full weekend of August approaches.

Even though back-to-school sales should make this one of their most profitable periods, Oklahoma merchants have to fight Texas' tax-free weekend with huge discount sales of their own, association Executive Vice President Scott Mitchell said.

"It's going to be another black eye for the state, another sad weekend. But it will probably be a very busy weekend for the Highway Patrol as Oklahomans flock down there," Mitchell said Wednesday.
