Aug. 13--Flu shots will be late in coming to Colorado, and that could mean fat profits for pharmaceutical companies that make flufighting drugs and expensive medical bills for patients, say Denver-area physicians and public health workers.
Nationwide, the vaccine -- the greatest defense against winter's muscle aches, feverish chills and chronic fatigue -- will be delayed and could be in short supply this year.
"We are going to have a problem -- the shot is our best strategy for preventing the flu," said Dr. Joe Saseen, a University of Colorado Pharmacy School professor. "Fewer people will be vaccinated this year because of the vaccine shortage and there's a cost issue."
